“Young Women Leading for a Greener Future”,

For the third year running, the Europe Region WAGGGS has successfully applied for support from the European Commission under sub-Action 3.2, Youth in the World. This sub-Action of the Youth in Action programme concerns cooperation in the youth field, in particular the exchange of good practice with Partner Countries from other parts of the world.
This year, the Europe Region WAGGGS received a grant of 84.975, 20 €, representing 80% of the total budget for “Young Women Leading for a Greener Future”, a year-long WLDP project organized in cooperation with the Asia Pacific Region of WAGGGS - Sangam. The project aims to empower youth leaders and workers, and in particular young women, to educate, speak out, act and motivate others to take action for a greener planet.
The project will involve 46 young women from 42 countries across Europe, Africa, the Western Hemisphere and Asia who will undertake national projects prior to coming together in a leadership event which will take place in Pune (India) from the14th to the 20th of March 2012.
This is the third time the European Commission has supported the Europe Region WAGGGS under sub-Action 3.2 – Youth in the World. In 2009, the Europe Region received 80.088 € to support 39 young women from WAGGGS’ Europe and Western Hemisphere Regions to participate in “Pathways to Leadership”, a WLDP project culminated in a leadership event at Our Cabana in Mexico in October 2010.

In 2010, the Europe Region received 77.630 € to support 33 young women from WAGGGS’ Europe and Africa Regions to participate in the ongoing “Together to Change the World”, a WLDP project which culminated in a leadership event Burundi this September.
