Friendship Bracelet Project

About the Project
We are inviting Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from all over the world to make friendship bracelets and send them to Sangam. We will then sell them in Yahdei, the name of the Sangam shop, for just 10 rupees each (this is approximately 20 US cents or 13 British pence!).
This will help Sangam to continue supporting its projects, like Children's Camp, and supporting our community partners. This will also allow visitors, and particularly local guides and scouts, to buy something that celebrates the world of WAGGGS and the international friendship we share.
Why not have a bracelet-making meeting with your unit or troop? Make a bracelet for a friend, and then make another one to send to us here at Sangam. When you pass on your bracelet, you can share the Sangam Spirit by explaining why you made the bracelet. You can share what you have learned about Sangam or your favourite Guiding/Girl Scouting experience.
We would also like to help promote WAGGGS’ Stop the Violence campaign through our
friendship bracelet project. Learn about the campaign and make your bracelets in the red and green colours of the campaign. This will help us to keep building the whisper into a shout!
Thank you for your friendship and support. We hope you enjoy making your friendship bracelets, and we look forward to receiving them and sharing the international friendship!

There is no deadline! This is an ongoing project and you can send your bracelets all year long.
If you have any questions, please email info@sangamworldcentre.org.

Friendship Bracelet Labels!
We’d like to be able to tell people which country their bracelet has come from. And we thought you might like to send them a message of friendship. To do this, simply download Label 1, fill in your information and then thread the bracelet through a hole in the top before sending it on to us.
Or, if you like the idea that someone who buys your bracelet might get in touch, download Label 2, and fill in a message and an email or postal address. We can’t guarantee that you’ll get a response, but you never know.
If you’re making a lot of bracelets either yourself or in a group, please don’t feel you need to write a label for every bracelet – just send us one card with your batch and we’ll make sure the information gets attached. You can write the message from yourself or on behalf of your unit/troop – whatever you like!
Friendship Bracelet Project FAQs
Is there a deadline?
We’re hoping that this will be an ongoing project, so there is no deadline. However, we think that Thinking Day would be a great time to launch the sale of the first batch as we’ll have loads of BS&G members here at Sangam, so if you can send us some by then, that would be fabulous!
Can I use beads in my bracelet?
Yes, you can use any material you like – as long as it makes a friendship bracelet!
Do I have to make my bracelet in a specific colour?
You can make your bracelet/s in any colour you choose. We’ll be pleased and excited to receive them in all colours of the rainbow. However, we would like to try to increase awareness of WAGGGS’ Global Advocacy Campaign to Stop the Violence, so if you’d like to make bracelets in the red and green colours of the campaign, then we’d love that too.
What exactly will you do with the bracelets?
We will sell the bracelets in Yahdei, the Sangam Shop. The price will be just 10rupees, in the hope that the young members of Bharat Scouts and Guides in particular will be able to afford to buy something. The funds will help us to run our programmes that support both WAGGGs’ initiatives and our local community partners
What is the point of the project?
‘Sangam’ means ‘coming together’ and we, along with the other world centres, are a meeting point for girl guides and girl scouts from around the world. We want to celebrate and share that international friendship, and bracelets seemed like the perfect way to do this. Soon we’ll produce a tag that you can send with your bracelets telling us where you’re from.
The project also gives you a way to start spreading the word about WAGGGS, your own experiences of guiding/scouting, or to advertise your troop/unit. You don’t have to make bracelets just for Sangam. Make some extra ones and give them to a friend, and when you do so, tell them about Girl guiding and why it’s such an amazing thing to be a part of.
Who came up with the project? Is it a WAGGGS thing?
This project is a Sangam initiative. It was conceived quite a while ago by a volunteer, and has finally been put into action by our current staff and volunteer team. Maybe if we’re successful, we could branch out and encourage the other world centres to get involved – who knows?!
How can I find out more?
If you have more questions that aren’t answered here, then feel free to get in touch with us at info@sangamworldcentre.org
We’ll also be adding more information and photographs to our website and facebook page, so keep an eye out!
